My walking group (15 of us that day) hiked to the top of St. Peter's Dome yesterday. It is a wilderness area under the US Forest Service. So many wildflowers were in bloom. Among everyone in the group we could identify almost all of them. After 2 miles of an upward climb on a rocky path, we reached the top which is a outcropping of rocks where we all sat and ate our lunches. It was a clear day and the sun was shining. We could see the cliffs behind Duluth, Minnesota and Lake Superior. What an expansive view!
The second highest waterfalls in Wisconsin at 80 feet was also on our trail in a secluded glen (Morgan Falls). We stayed there a long time. Afterwards we drove to a member's house who served us her famous homemade apple pie with ice cream. Life is good.
I noticed 2 things about this group yesterday. All of us love moss. On trees. On rocks. In running water. The other thing I noticed was our creativity and ingenuity. All 15 of us had devised our own style of tick defense: sprays, pants inside socks, duct tape sticky side out, tick repellent clothing, a dog collar around each ankle or a combination of several. We were quite a sight, but a happier group you could not find.
